@tiptoetonight Sadly I must disagree with what you say about the "kids these days" and their lack of musical culture. I'm 15 and all the bands that I listen to (including ELO) I discovered by my own will and curiosity. Sure, there is a lot of shitty music out there today, but there's also the indie rock scene, which tends to be dismissed by classic rock lovers. But there is truly some excellent (instrumental) music released in the 2000s, bands like The Strokes, Vampire Weekend, MGMT and so on.

And which ELO song is best? Can't say. But this I know; the DO-WAP part from "Telephone Line" is one of the greatest and coolest passages in rock/pop history. If you can hear that musical passage in a darkened room through the sound system I described below, you'll be in musical "HIGH" heaven!!....It'll sound beautiful, eerie, haunting, and righteously COOL!!....It'll "hurt" so good!! Goose-bumps/Hairs standing on end/An "existential" experience!...Things that truly GREAT music sometimes does.

Hate to sound snobby but...to really appreciate ELO and Jeff Lynne's studio recording brilliance, forget listening through headphones and a computer. You have to hear them on a hi-fi stereo system (even better w/surround sound) played on either vinyl or SACD through big ole speakers. The richer, fuller, softer sound will do ELO's music justice!! |
